Anderson on track for football

29th December 2013

Latest World Athletics Center recruit Jeshua Anderson still has football ambitions.

The 400m hurdler was on a football scholarship to Washington State before realising his potential on the track.

‘My aim is to be no.1 in the world and be remembered in the sport. But I also want to play football sometime after Rio or something like that.’ Explained Jeshua.

‘In my first few years I just wanted to play football. Our high school football coach at the time made us run track. Both sports helped me, as I got stronger in football and I could run a lot better in track.’

‘In my senior year I ended up breaking the National high school record in the hurdles. That gave me the motivation to go further in track. I still ended up going to college on a football scholarship to Washington State, but I made sure they allowed me to run also.’

Despite his success in athletics with four Pac-10 titles and three NCAA titles to his name, not to mention a World Universities gold and National title, the American is still keen to pursue a career in football when he hangs up his running spikes.

‘It’s always been a dream of mine to do both professionally, track and football. But I wanted to win some medals and I knew if I kept getting banged up I probably wouldn’t be able to run in the same way or run as fast. I love to play football but I knew I had to give up something. Hopefully I get a chance to play football later on but this is what I’ve been concentrating on now.’
